INSPIRING STORY OF THE WEEK
PROOF OF LIFE
by Melissa Dallago
Melissa recalls a man whose death helped teach her much about life in this story with a
life inspiring message.
Justin entered Melissa’s life at age sixteen. He was her step-dad when he arrived, but exited her life as her beloved father. Melissa speaks about all the qualities that made this transition happen: his lively energy, compassion and “never say die” attitude in dealing with challenges to his health. She tells an endearing story of the day his precision, his measure twice cut once motto, failed him and he installed shelves in her bedroom that left knick knacks sliding to the floor. This shared experience remained a family treasure, even sparking an idea for a special present Melissa handed to Justin on Christmas morning, one that brought peals of laughter to all who knew the inside story.
‘Measure twice, cut once’
Death brings a life inspiring message
Before his death, Melissa and her mom were gifted to spend one more precious day together with Justtin. They laughed and loved and together said the many things that needed to be said. Then his breathing slowed, and with eyes closed, he squeezed their hands several times. When the hand squeezing stopped, they knew he had passed.
What did Melissa see as Justin passed over? How did his passing impact on Melissa, teach her a thing or two about life? In this poignant tale, Melissa shares her thoughts on how this experience with death eventually gave her proof of life. In so doing, she gives the rest of us hope with a life inspiring message that we each bear a should that lives on.
