INSPIRING STORY OF THE WEEK
A HORSE NAMED CODY
by Melanie Sue Bowles
In this inspiring story, Melanie finally figures out how to communicate with her recalcitrant horse.
Even experts can be wrong
Sometimes our own gut instincts trump all the advice we get from “the experts”. And so it was with Melanie. When she bought her first horse and brought it home, she knew next to nothing about raising horses. She soon realized that she had a real challenge on her hands. Raising a horse like Cody was not so easy. Melanie was having real trouble getting him to behave. Eyes rimmed in white, he nipped and kicked at her. But then one near tragedy made Melanie know she needed help. The experts all advised her to get tough with Cody to show him who was boss. But somehow she knew they were wrong. Melanie just couldn’t buy into the advice she was getting from those professional trainers.
Melanie could never accept the notion that horses are schemers who need to be broken. She kept asking for advice, but none of it seemed to ring true to her. Then one day, while observing some horses in her field, she had a casual conversation with a neighbor she began to figure it out for herself. That was the day Melanie started to find her own way to communicating with her horse.
The inspiring story of Proud Spirit
Later Melanie went on to establish Proud Spirit, one of the most successful facilities for abused and neglected horses in the United States. Now that’s an inspiring story!
Along the way, Melanie discovered that the more we believe our dream will come true, the more ways our mind will find to make it happen.
