Inspiring Story of the Week
ALL MY LIFE’S A CIRCLE
by Susan Bahary
Susan Bahary lives in California, but grew up on Long Island, NY right next door to the iconic singer/songwriter, Harry Chapin. Her family was very close to the entire Chapin family, but it was Harry who would always go that extra mile. He had a way about him of making people feel so comfortable. When he recognized a special talent in someone, he was sure to encourage them. One day he suggested that Susan enter a competition to create a logo for a new charity named World Hunger. Susan never forgot how this iconic man encouraged her, considering her art good enough to win a national competition.
Years went by. Susan continued to pursue her art, and had already made quite a name for herself as a bronze sculptress. America’s VetDogs was only one of the famous bronze scultures she was commissioned to create. A bronze of Sully, President George H.W. Bush’s service dog in the final months of his life, was another.
But a request to accept a commission commemorating this iconic man brought tears to her eyes as her mind became flooded with warm childhood memories.
